AFC Bournemouth vs Southampton LIVE: Premier League result, final score and reaction
The Saints ended a five-game winless streak at the Vitality Stadium
Southampton ended a five-game winless run and moved out of the relegation zone with a 1-0 victory at Bournemouth in the Premier League on Wednesday.
Che Adams headed in a cross from Romain Perraud in the ninth minute at Vitality Stadium and the visitors held on to give manager Ralph Hasenhuttl a vital win. Bournemouth lost for the first time under interim manager Gary O’Neil, who had guided the mid-table Cherries on a six-game unbeaten run after replacing Scott Parker. Saints goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu twice denied Philip Billing in the first half — from close range in the 16th minute and a long-range strike at the half-hour mark. Marcos Senesi nearly equalized just after halftime but his header went wide. The victory lifted Hasenhuttl’s team four spots to 14th place and should ease some pressure off the Saints manager.
O’Neil took over after Bournemouth fired Parker following a 9-0 defeat at Liverpool on Aug. 27.

AFC Bournemouth vs Southampton
It's a first loss under Gary O'Neil for Bournemouth, but the Cherries stay 11th thanks to no other corresponding results displacing them. Three places below them are Southampton, who climb from 18th to 14th with their first win in six, and are now just two points behind their South Coast rivals with a better goal difference. It's still such a tight table at both ends, and playing as they did in this game, both sides will know that they have enough quality to survive come season's end.

He may have ended up on the losing side, but Philip Billing was a constant threat in the Saints box, and went close to equalising on several occasions. In 83 minutes he managed two shots, four touches in the box, and completed 20 passes in the final third. He won eight of his game-high 15 duels, including three of four in the air, and won the ball four times from five attempted tackles, including once in Southampton's own third. Bullish.

It's all over, and Southampton have their first win in six games! It also comes with their first clean sheet of the season, and condemns Bournemouth to a first defeat under interim coach Gary O'Neil. The hosts piled on the pressure to equalise after Adams' early header, but couldn't create enough opportunities to really test Bazunu. Saints had a smattering of their own chances, but held on gallantly in defence to keep the Cherries at bay and lift themselves out of the bottom three!
