From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Mohammed Shami's final-over hat-trick broke Afghanistan hearts as India sealed an 11-run World Cup win at Southampton.

Mohammad Nabi's smart 52 had Afghanistan eyeing the greatest-ever World Cup upset, only for Shami to send him packing - then clean bowl Aftab Alam and Mujeeb Ur Rahman in the next two balls.

Shami's four for 40 and Jasprit Bumrah's two for 39 delivered a bowling masterclass to allow India to defend their paltry 224 for eight from their full 50 overs.

It's going well for Mujeeb out there

13 India 58-1 KL Rahul 26 Virat Kohli 30

Nabi goes for four in his first over. You suspect Afghanistan will want some quick wickets early in these next 10 overs to remain as competitive as possible.

14 India 64-1 KL Rahul 30 Virat Kohli 31

These two look fairly comfortable out there and are playing very well off the back foot. Not a lot in this for the Afghanistan bowlers.

WICKET! KL Rahul (30) c Hazrat Zazai b Mohammad Nabi

KL, what have you done!

India were going so well and this partnership looked as of it could stretch for a long time still, but KL Rahul slices a rash shot high into the air off Nabi and straight to Zazai.

17 India 73-2 Vijay Shankar 4 Virat Kohli 35

You wonder how long it will be until Afghanistan unleash Rashid Khan as Nabi goes for a couple. He is normally used as a run saver but it may have been interesting to see him a little earlier here as a wicket-taking option. Mind you, he may still be hurting after being absolutely battered by England at Old Trafford.

DRINKS!

19 India 79-2 Vijay Shankar 8 Virat Kohli 38

This is a fairly conservative start from Shankar, who we are so used to seeing hit fours and sixes for fun. India have a very powerful middle-order and you feel they're holding back a little bit out there at the moment.

19.1 India 83-2 Vijay Shankar 7 Virat Kohli 42

Here's Rashid Khan.

Can he respond after being hit for 110 runs without a wicket.

Welcome to the game Rashid, here's a four from Kohli. Gereat shot from the India skipper to long-off.

19.3 India 84-2 Vijay Shankar 7 Virat Kohli 42

Review!

Khan's googly hits Shankar's pad and there was a not out decision. Afghanistan appealing for LBW.

HUGE inside edge before pad. Not out.

Afghanistan waste their review.
