England are hoping to secure a place in the Women’s T20 World Cup semi-finals when they face the West Indies in Dubai this afternoon.

Heather Knight’s team are unbeaten so far with three wins from three including a 10-wicket hammering of Scotland in their last outing on Sunday. They sit top of the table with a healthy net run rate but know that defeat today will leave them vulnerable to an early exit from the tournament.

For their part, the West Indies reignited their campaign with an eight-wicket win over Bangladesh. They chased down a total of 104 with 43 balls remaining meaning they boosted their own net run rate to +1.708. The result of that means a win over England would be enough to send them through to the next round.

This match is effectively a quarter-final tie and England will be determined to continue their winning run and join Australia and New Zealand in the final four.

England 11-0 (2), Bouchier 4, Wyatt-Hodge 6, James 0-7 (1)

Zaida James is back in the West Indies team for today’s game. The right-hander off spinner starts with a decent delivery that Wyatt-Hodge turns away for one.

Dropped! Bouchier is given a lifeline. She goes for an expansive drive but doesn’t catch the ball fully. It loops into the air and a lunging Ashmini Munisar spills it diving forward.

England look to take advantage of their fortune. Bouchier gets off strike before Wyatt-Hodge attacks with a swipe to cow corner that brings a couple of runs.

The opener then threads a lovely drive through cover to end the over with two more.

England 4-0 (1), Bouchier 3, Wyatt-Hodge 1, Henry 0-4 (1)

That’s a great over for West Indies. Just the four runs coming from it with Chinelle Henry finding her length straight away.

After Danni Wyatt-Hodge leans into a legside flick to get off the mark, Bouchier whips the final ball of the over through midwicket for a couple of runs.

England 1-0 (0.3), Bouchier 1, Wyatt-Hodge 0, Henry 0-1 (0.3)

Chinelle Henry gets the match started with the first ball of the game. She hits a good length with a bit of shape away from Maia Bouchier who knocks it gently into point.

The second ball sees the batter push one to mid-on as Henry keeps it tight.

England finally get off the mark as Bouchier looks for a pull shot. The ball doesn’t bounce as high as she’s expecting and she can only slap it down the ground for a single.

England vs West Indies

The national anthems have been played and the players are making their way out to the wicket.

Maia Bouchier and Danni Wyatt-Hodge are opening the batting. They put on an unbroken partnership of over 100 against Scotland, can they do so again here?

Let’s find out...

West Indies captain Hayley Matthews:

“We are going to bowl first. We have been pretty successful doing that in this tournament and during the entire year. So, we are backing ourselves to go out there, and put some pressure on the opponents.”

“We just want to go out there and play our best brand of cricket. Once we are out there and playing our best cricket, I don’t think any of the narratives come into mind.”

Ecclestone on facing dangerous players like Deandra Dottin

“I love going against the world’s best and me and Deandra have great battles when we play against each other,” said Spohie Ecclestone, who has dismissed her former Manchester Originals team-mate Dottin twice in five T20 innings.

“We are people that want to get one up on each other because we play against each other so often and play in the same team with each other. It’s very exciting.

“I’ll look at how they go about their things but I’m not going to concentrate on them too much and go about the way I’m doing stuff.”

Relentless England demolish Scotland to make T20 World Cup statement

England laid down a marker with a 10-wicket win over Scotland and now have their sights set on the Women’s T20 World Cup trophy.

Half-centuries from Maia Bouchier and Danni Wyatt-Hodge wrapped up an emphatic win in Sharjah, as England chased down Scotland’s 109-6 in exactly 10 overs.

That pushes them back top of Group B, while they also now have the best net run-rate ahead of a clash with the West Indies in their final game.

England captain Heather Knight:

”I was going to bowl first, but the pitch looks OK. It’s our first game here so we’ll have to be smart and adapt to the conditions quickly.

“It’s simple for us, we win and we go through. That’s what we’re focusing on and the fact that we just want to play our best cricket.

“We have been building some good momentum but so have West Indies so we are expecting them to come hard today.

“Alice Capsey comes back into the line-up and Sophia Dunkley misses out.”
