From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

What have they been saying?

Crawford: “Kavaliauskas is a two-time Olympian and I can’t take him lightly. He’s got everything to gain and nothing to lose and that makes him dangerous. I never overlook any opponent, and this will be no exception. I’ll be ready for anything and everything he brings on December 14 when I return to my second home, Madison Square Garden.”

Kavaliauskas: “I have prepared my whole boxing career for a fight of this magnitude. Crawford is an excellent fighter, but I fear no man. Nobody has seen the best of the ‘Mean Machine’ yet. I am going to shock a lot of people on December 14, but it won’t be a surprise to me. I earned this title shot. It is my time.”

Crawford is making his way to the ring.

And we're underway!

Tidy first round from Crawford. Operates out of a southpaw stance and out-jabs Kavaliauskas.

Alex Pattle15 December 2019 04:17

A decent right hand from Kavaliauskas in the second round, but Crawford is utilising that southpaw jab to great effect. A strong start for the champion.

Kavaliauskas appears to land a knockdown in the third, but it's ruled a slip! A better round from the Lithuanian, though.

Alex Pattle15 December 2019 04:23

We may have a fight on our hands... Kavaliauskas has power and Crawford can feel it for sure. Four rounds in the bag. Possibly two apiece.

Alex Pattle15 December 2019 04:26

Crawford struggling more than usual. A close fifth round, but it likely goes his way.

Alex Pattle15 December 2019 04:31

A better round for Crawford. He slows the tempo and gets behind the jab again. Good composure from the American.

Alex Pattle15 December 2019 04:34

A solid knockdown from Crawford! He's finding his rhythm now! Seven rounds done, and Crawford has established a bit of a lead.

Alex Pattle15 December 2019 04:38

Crawford ends the eight round with some nice shots. Could it be that Kavaliauskas peaked in the middle of this fight?

Alex Pattle15 December 2019 04:43

That's all she wrote. Two knockdowns for Crawford early in the ninth and the fight is stopped! The American retains his WBO welterweight title!
