From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. WBA welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao delivered a dominant performance to earn a unanimous decision victory over Adrien Broner on Saturday in Las Vegas.

The 40-year-old Filipino multiple world champion was quicker and more accurate as he controlled each round and cruised to the triumph over Broner, 29, who fought gamely and stayed upright despite being hit with several heavy combinations.

Retired great Floyd Mayweather attended the fight, fueling speculation of a rematch against Pacquiao. Undefeated Mayweather beat Pacquiao in 2015.

Speaking after the fight, Manny Pacquiao discussed some of the wise words from his trainer.

I felt so happy because I did well in the fight. We did a lot of work on the jab in training camp.

God gave me this good health and blessings and at age 40 I can still do this.

I proved it in my last fight and I’ve proved it again at the age if 40.

Manny Paquiao is still here. I wanted to push more but my trainer said it would be careless, to wait for him and counter so that’s what I did.

Adrien Broner is speaking in his post-fight press conference and still believes that he won the fight, despite losing by unanimous decision...

I was ready. I prepared myself and was ready to fight. They were hoping for me to get in there and get destroyed, but that didn’t happen.

I beat him. Everybody out there knows I beat him. I controlled the fight. He was missing. I hit him clean more times. I beat him.

This is how Broner reacted to losing against Pacman.

Fair to say he wasn't best pleased.

If Pacquiao does get his way and rematches Mayweather, would anyone ... actually ... care?

I would. Only because of intrigue, not because I'd be expecting to see an amazing boxing match. Everyone knows Floyd Mayweather has still got it - and there is still life left in Pacquiao at the top. But as with most Mayweather fights, you tune in to see if someone can land - and if they do, what will happen.

Here's what the WBA champion had to say.

Tell him to come back [from retirement] to the ring and we will fight.

I am willing to fight Floyd Mayweather again.

Manny Pacquiao's new record is quite something, not only is he the only eight-weight world champion in history but ...

70 fights

61 wins

7 losses

2 draws

And that's only at professional level! How has he had the time to fit it all in!?

Adam Hamdani20 January 2019 09:07

Speaking in his post-fight press conference, Broner claimed that he was wearing glasses for 'fashion'.

I ain't got a mark on me!

↵Meanwhile, Badou Jack suffered one of the worst cuts you'll ever see in a boxing.

The former middleweight world champion was convincingly beaten by Marcus Browne, but it was an accidental clash of heads that caused Jack the most harm from their 12-rounder.

So you really need to see this to believe it ...

Somewhere in a small village east of Manila in the Philippines, Manny Pacquiao's support was loud and strong.
