Moment Jake Paul delivers first-round TKO in Ryan Bourland fight

Jake Paul scored a first-round TKO of Ryan Bourland on Saturday, stopping the professional boxer before Amanda Serrano’s title defence was cancelled at the last moment.

Paul, 27, quickly split his fellow American’s guard with repeated jabs, before adding right hands to the body and head to wobble Bourland, 35, against the ropes. Bourland, who entered Puerto Rico with a 17-2 pro record, scrambled around in a bid to recover, but he was eventually overwhelmed in the corner.

As Paul poured on punches, Bourland fell to his knees, and the referee stepped in to wave off the cruiserweight bout. With that, YouTube star Paul moved to 9-1 as a pro. The result in San Juan marked his second straight win against a pro boxer, with the “Problem Child” having knocked out Andre August in round one in December. Before Saturday (2 March), Bourland had not fought since September 2022.

Paul vs Bourland was set to be followed by a main event between Serrano and Nina Meinke, but the unified featherweight title fight was cancelled in a bizarre scene. After Paul stopped Bourland, Meinke entered the ring in her fight gear, while Serrano arrived in sunglasses and a hoodie. A ring announcer revealed that the main event had been cancelled, and that the crowd would receive 100 per cent refunds.

Champion Serrano, 35, said she had not been cleared to compete by doctors, owing to an eye injury. Re-live updates from Paul vs Bourland and the bizarre cancellation of Serrano vs Meinke, below.

Santiago dips his head to evade a pair of hooks, then grabs Gonzalez’s legs as if he’s considering a double-leg takedown!

Santiago with a decent rear uppercut, with his back to the ropes. Gonzalez is just striding forward a bit too keenly at times and putting himself off balance.

Jonathan Gonzalez vs Rene Santiago – Round five

This has been a close fight through four rounds. In terms of punches landed, there’s almost nothing separating them, although Gonzalez has thrown more. That tallies; it just feels like Santiago is doing the cleaner work, even without seeing the stats.

That said, Gonzalez lands a heavy hook and snaps back Santiago’s head now. He loads up on another hook but misses this time.

Gonzalez complains about a low blow, but the referee is keen to get the action back under way. Santiago apologises.

A fair bit of clinching follows, with Santiago struggling to get shots off at close range. Strong uppercut by Gonzalez in the pocket, jolting back the head of his challenger.

Now Gonzalez misses with a hook as the pair separate, while Santiago employs some tidy footwork to land a hook of his own.

Santiago increases his activity early in this round. Gonzalez fires back with a couple of heavy shots to the body.

A clinch ensues, before the fighters separate and Gonzalez overshoots with a straight shot.

Both men land uppercuts to the body now. Gonzalez marches forward with a high guard, backing up Santiago. Santiago looks to circle into space but moves onto a left hook from Gonzalez.

Better work from Santiago now, as he mixes in hooks and uppercuts and varies his target between head and body.

Again Gonzalez overcommits and misses, this time accidentally flinging himself off balance and to the canvas.

A frantic spell ends the round! A decent flurry from Santiago, but he’s put off balance by a hook!

Jonathan Gonzalez vs Rene Santiago – Round one

Twelve rounds scheduled here. Gonzalez stands southpaw, while Santiago is orthodox.

Intermittent jabs from both men in this opening frame. Neither man is opening up too much; it’s definitely a bit of a feeling-out phase.

The crowd is being much more patient towards its own fighters than it was towards Walton and Torres in the last bout!

Santiago misses with a leaping left hook. He jabs to the body, getting under an errant hook from Gonzalez.
