Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Errol Spence faces Shawn Porter in a welterweight unification battle this weekend as both men look to unify the division.

Spence fights for the first time since March when he retained his IBF title in a 12 round shutout of previously undefeated pound-for-pound great Mikey Garcia, while Porter defends his prized WBC title which he won from the grasp of Danny Garcia last year.

The Texan goes into the fight as the huge favourite, remaining undefeated through his career, but Porter looks rejuvenated and is hoping to cause an upset.

What’s your prediction?

Not a complete shutout, but Spence to win comfortably on points.

What are the odds?

Errol Spence: 1/9

Shawn Porter: 11/2

Akhmedov's corner, let's have a talk about them.

Not much tactical advice. More cheerleading...

"Who wants to be world champion!? Do you want to be world champion!? Let's go!'

It might just work to be fair.

Round 11: Barrios 104-105 Akhmedov

Barrios just doesn't have anything left, he's surviving at this point but taking more and more punishment. All he can hope for is a lucky shot or for the judges to prefer him on the scorecards (if he makes it that far).

Akhmedov takes the lead.

Final round, here we go.

What a decent fight this has been!

Adam Hamdani29 September 2019 03:56

Round 12: Barrios 114-113 Akhmedov

WOW! Barrios was losing the round and lands a fantastic straight right hand which causes Akhmedov to touch the mat.

One single punch turns a 10-9 round into a 10-8 and could well have won him the fight.

Adam Hamdani29 September 2019 04:00

I was literally typing out that Akhmedov had turned this around, won the fight after starting slowly but now that's changed everything.

We await the scores...

Adam Hamdani29 September 2019 04:01

114-112

115-111

116-111

All three judges score in favour of Mario Barrios, who cannot see out of his left eye one bit!

Adam Hamdani29 September 2019 04:03

A couple of surprisingly wide cards there, but you can't really argue with the 114-112.

A good fight and we move onto the co-main event of the evening.

Adam Hamdani29 September 2019 04:03

Straight in we go!

Anthony Dirrell makes his way to the ring.

Adam Hamdani29 September 2019 04:10

Round one: Dirrell 9-10 Benavidez

Good round for Benavidez who is taking centre ring and looks the much bigger man in there. He was a bit more active in the first.

Adam Hamdani29 September 2019 04:17

Round two: Dirrell 18-20 Benavidez

Benavidez is huge for this weight and every time he lands Dirrell really feels it. Not much clean getting through there.
