Dillian Whyte recovered from a knockdown to beat Oscar Rivas at the O2 and become the mandatory challenger to Deontay Wilder’s WBC world title.

The Brit started brilliantly and almost knocked Rivas down in a thrilling second round. But the Colombian gamely battled back and sent Whyte to the canvas in the ninth.

However, Whyte held on to claim a unanimous decision. Relive all of the drama below:

Round one

A cagy opening round. Allen is clearly trying to set up that big overhand right that he loves so much. He's walking forwards with his hands down and repeatedly targeting the body. But Price hasn't bought it just yet, and steals the round with a cracking right hand which blasts through Allen's non-existent defence. Allen raises his eyebrows and shrugs. But that stung. Price wins the round.

Round two

A good start from Allen. He goes back to the body and then lands a sharp uppercut as Price's hands slip down. Price fires back with a stiff jab. Allen can't keep his hands down forever...

Allen goes back to the body. And Price neatly dodges the attack and sneaks in an uppercut! He's clearly the better boxer, which you would expect given his Olympic pedigree. But can he evade Allen for the entire fight?

Regardless: he's won the opening two rounds.

Round three

Price enjoying a lot of success with his jab. Allen's hands are up now. Price has earned his respect. He attempts to bulldoze his way through and rough Price up on the inside, but the referee is quick to separate them. Allen throws a right hook which gets the crowd excited but it doesn't properly land, and Price immediately flies back, connecting with a straight right. He's boxing sensibly, waiting for his opportunities...

Allen continues to press forward but Price is well on top. 30-27 to the Scouser, for me.

Round four

Can Price maintain this pace? He is boxing very smartly and conservatively, Allen needs to do something to up the tempo here. He continues to march forward with Price boxing nearly off the backfoot. The Scouser lands a left uppercut to the body and Allen fires back with an overhand right which sneaks through. He then tunnels into Price's body, finishing his attack with another accurate uppercut. Better.

Price settles back behind his jab. And then catches Allen low. The referee spots it but the Doncaster man is fine to continue. The round ends with a spot of wrestling, before Price catches Allen with a sharp, short uppercut.

Both men favouring the uppercut. I'd give that to Price, again.

Round five

Everybody at Sky has scored every single round to Price, as have I.

A great start from Price, who again lands with the uppercut. He follows that up with two stiff jabs. He's looking very good in there. Allen is already beginning to look a little laboured... He's not counter-punching and is instead focusing on finding that one big punch.

Then a brief moments respite: Price's gumshield is out. He resumes by flicking out that jab again, before Allen lands another uppercut. The crowd gets very excited because Price dips his head, but he's absolutely fine. Nothing to see here. Allen sloppily marches forward in an attempt to unload some shots to Price's body, but his hands are down and Price catches him with his jab, which has been excellent tonight.

Another round to Price.

Round six

A very scrappy start to the round. Allen keeps attempting to clinch but the referee isn't having any of it. Allen keeps throwing that Hail Mary right hand over the top, but Price isn't hanging around waiting to be hit. Price then narrowly misses with an uppercut. But moments later he lands one - how many times has Allen been caught with that shot?!

Price catches Allen with a jab and then goes to his body. A strong end to the round.

60-54 Price. Allen is boxing poorly. But can Price maintain the pace. That's the crucial question.

Round seven

Better from Allen. A left hook followed by an uppercut. Both land.

Price continues to flick out that jab, but Allen marches forward. He needs something special. He tries to lean all over Price on the ropes and the referee doesn't like that, he brings both men together and attempts to tidy things up. This is getting scrappy.

Boom! Big shot. Price lands a left hook which catches Allen flush, although he continues to walk forward and doesn't appear hurt. That was a fine shot. Price is so clearly on top here. Another roud to the big man.

Round eight

Brilliant from Price. He plants his feet and throws. He's boxing wonderfully and Allen is getting beaten up pretty badly. Does he have the power to hurt the bigger man? This fight is slipping away from him...

Allen leans forward but Price lands two nice shots to the body. Allen is attempting to get to work on the inside but Price is keeping things very neat and tidy and he counters with a wonderful uppercut. He's eating plenty of shots and his face is already beginning to look like a mess.

Allen then sneaks in a left hook on the counter just before the bell, which may have rocked Price just slightly. But the bell sounds and it's yet another round to the Olympian. 80-72.

Vithushan Ehantharajah20 July 2019 22:15

Round nine

Allen is cut badly above the right eye, which has practically swollen shut.

Price just needs to stay sensible here. He doesn't want to throw too many shots and risk tiring out. He is in total control. Allen is throwing some big shots but he's not coming close to landing. And Price is chipping away at that right eye with his jab.

Fabulous combo from Price. He lands a left-right which rocks Allen. That eye is a mess. He has nine minutes to knock Price out because he's lost this round, too.

Vithushan Ehantharajah20 July 2019 22:18

Round ten

Allen's corner are telling him that he has to really go for this now. He's being completely - and ruthlessly - dismantled by Price. This is a boxing masterclass.

But he starts this round by barely throwing any punches. That suits Price, who fires a couple of straight jabs and sits back. He is controlling the range expertly, keeping Allen long.

Allen can barely get close. He then over-telegraphs a big right hand which Price neatly sidesteps. Is he completely out of ideas? Another round to Price. 100-90.
