Derek Chisora halted his run of three straight defeats to beat Kubrat Pulev by a split decision and silence his doubters at the O2 Arena in London.
Two veterans of the sport did battle for a second time, having fought in Hamburg back in 2016, amid talk of what they had left to achieve in boxing. Pulev had won the first meeting by a split decision but was second best for much of the 12 rounds, with Chisora connecting a number of times with his right to make his 45th professional fight one to remember back in the capital.
It earned the 38-year-old heavyweight success after the judges scored the bout many predicted would send him into retirement 112-116, 116-112 and 116-114. The combined age of the duo was 79 but Chisora had faced Oleksandr Usyk in 2020 while Pulev was knocked out by Anthony Joshua at the end of the same year to show their desire to still go toe-to-toe with the best in the business. It was a welcome return to London for “Del Boy’ after bouts with Joseph Parker in Manchester and the former Finchley amateur boasted a strong record of six wins from seven at the O2 Arena. PA

Maciec lunges in with a left hook, but the Irishman blocks it well.
Maciec rolls under a right straight and drives an uppercut into the midriff of Agyarko.
Now an overhand right lands for Maciec once more, but Agyarko comes back with an aggressive series of shots upstairs.

Maciec is starting to land more now. The shots aren’t all connecting cleanly, but they’re being thrown with serious intent.
Agyarko tries to use the jab to keep Maciec at bay. He slips a right uppercut through Maciec’s guard as the Pole storms forward.

The pair clinch, and Maciec shovels a few right hooks into Agyarko’s rubs.
Elsewhere, it’s much of the same; Maciec is struggling to land but is continuing to pressure Agyarko.

Maciec continues to try to assert himself, but Agyarko is finding a good balance between relying on counter shots and pressing forward, too.
Maciec connects with one of those right overhands, but Agyarko laughs it off.
The Irishman has spent some of the round playing around in a southpaw stance.

No one has ever stopped Maciec, but Agyarko is dealing out some damage here, and we’re not even halfway through this contest.
A blistering barrage from Agyarko, who fires off quick hooks to the body of Maciec before ending the combination with a right hook up top.
Agyarko smiles at Maciec while skipping away from the Pole. The Irishman must stay disciplined in his defence, though, as his corner told him before this round.

More successful uppercuts and hooks from Agyarko, but still Maciec comes plodding forward.
The body shots in particular are beginning to take their toll on the Pole. Maciec tries to get back on the front foot but can only watch Agyarko circle away comfortably.
Agyarko has Maciec against the ropes and steps off to his right rapidly. Lovely work to open up a different angle.

A one-two from Agyarko hurts Maciec, who wobbles backwards slightly.
The Pole looks to punch his way out of the situation but is on the receiving end of uppercuts and hooks as Agyarko begins to turn the screw now.
Agyarko sees an uppercut blocked but lunges in successfully with a left body hook.
Maciec hops about, trying to stay light on his feet before coming forward with his head down.
Agyarko’s combinations are getting more intricate now.

This is Agyarko’s super-welterweight debut as a pro, with the Irishman having already picked up the WBA International title at middleweight.
Agyarko steps forward, jabbing up top and to the body of Maciec, who responds with that right overhand that he favours; Agyarko appeared to eat a bit of that shot.
The pair briefly clinch, with Maciec landing short hooks from the right then left as they separate.
Agyarko applies the pressure again, squeezing an uppercut through Maciec’s guard before slinging hooks to the body of the Pole.
