Anthony Joshua v Joseph Parker: Tale of the tape

Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

It’s finally time. Anthony Joshua tonight takes on Joseph Parker with no fewer than four world titles on the line.

Joshua's WBA (Super), IBF and IBO world titles will be on the line, as will Parker's WBO belt, in the first ever heavyweight unification fight to held in Britain.

Some 78,000 fans are expected at the Principality Stadium this evening, in Joshua’s third consecutive stadium fight.

Both men head into the contest as undefeated world champions, but Joshua is the overwhelming favourite to win, with lucrative contests against the likes of Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury awaiting the winner.

Round 2

Crolla is taking the centre of the ring more and testing out his opponent with some left-handed jabs but still not too much of note. Ramirez was holding on to the Manchester man at the end of that round so he could already be starting to tire.

Round 3

Ramirez is coming back into it in the third. Both he and Crolla threw some hard shots but neither looked to fazed. This could be more even  than predicted...

Round 4

Crolla, the overwhelming favourite could be in a bit of trouble here. He's got quite a nasty cut above his right eye, courtesy of a Ramirez left hook and is being seen to here now.

Joshua's predicting the eighth or ninth round... do you agree?

Round 5

Ramirez is making a good account of himself here. There are a few shots getting through Crolla's defence and the eye is still giving the Manchester fighter a bit of trouble. Still no big scares for either man yet though.

Round 6

The longer this goes on the more of a worry this becomes for Crolla who was expected to dispatch Ramirez fairly early. It is a very even fight at the moment and a tough one for the judges to call should it go the distance.

Round 7

We had a brief stop midway through that round as Crolla had to gave the blood wiped away from his face and it seemed to be the thing distracting him as he came straight back with a huge right that nearly knocked Ramirez off his feet. He held on for the rest of the round (quite literally) but that was an opening.

There is a huge roar at the Principality now as Anthony Joshua's arrival at the stadium is shown on the big screen. Just a taster for the volume we will hear later...

Round 8

Crolla is chipping away here and is finally getting some joy as Ramirez begins to tire.
