Your support makes all the difference.Joe Biden has woken up an encouraging reception for his first State of the Union address, which snap polling says met with the approval of more than two-thirds of Americans – a rare bit of good news for a president whose ratings remain underwater.
Mr Biden at times received bipartisan standing applause in the House chamber last night, especially during his remarks on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. “Putin’s war was premeditated and unprovoked,” the president said. “He rejected efforts at diplomacy. He thought the West and Nato wouldn’t respond. And, he thought he could divide us here at home. Putin was wrong. We were ready.”
However, progressives have given a lukewarm reception to the domestic elements of Mr Biden’s speech, in which he promised to “fund the police” while declining to go as far as some wanted on key issues like immigration.
Speaking on MSNBC, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said that “there’s some themes that are left a little bit to be desired for key constituencies in the Democratic base, but the president’s goal was very clear on really projecting a theme of unity and I think he’s still stuck to that.”
Meanwhile, the White House has hit back at heckling from far-right Congresswomen Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert, with Press Secretary Jen Psaki remarking that their shouting at the president “says a lot more about them” than it does about the substance of his speech.

Joe Biden confused or flubbed a key moment during his State of the Union speech, calling Ukrainians the “Iranian people” while aiming for an inspiring moment of support against Russian aggression.
“Putin may circle Kyiv with tanks, but he’ll never gain the hearts and souls of the Iranian people,” Biden said to an awkward slow clap.
“He’ll never, he’ll never extinguish their love of freedom,” he continued before someone yelled from the crowd and the trepidatious applause grew.

Boeing and Ford latest corporate giants to suspend operations in Russia
Aviation giant Boeing and automaker Ford are the latest major US corporations to suspend their operations in Russia in response to the invasion of Ukraine.
Both companies, which have large operations in Russia, announced the moves on Tuesday.
Boeing, which employs several thousand people in the region, said it halted major operations in its Moscow office and would cease providing parts and support services to Russian airlines.

Poll: 64% now think Biden will lower inflation
A CBS News YouGov poll found that after watching the State of the Union 64 per cent of those surveyed now believe that Biden’s policies will lower inflation.
That figure is up from 48 per cent prior to Biden’s address to Congress.
Poll: Almost three-quarters believe Biden policies effective for dealing with Russia
Viewers wanted to hear President Biden talk about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in his address tonight, and he began his speech on the topic.
As many as 71 per cent of those who watched tonight said Biden’s policies will deal with Russia effectively.

Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert heckled Joe Biden during the State of the Union speech, yelling “build the wall, build the wall” as the president discussed immigration.
About halfway through his speech, Biden pivoted from talking about his Supreme Court nomination to immigration reform.
“Folks, if we’re going to advance liberty and justice, we need to secure our border and fix the immigration system,” he said.
