Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The US is just four days away from the 2018 midterm elections on 6 November and races around the country are heating up.

Candidates are not the only ones out on the campaign trail. President Donald Trump has held 33 'Make America Great Again' political rallies in 17 states ahead of the 2018 election.
In the process, he has raised $106m (£80m) for his own 2020 reelection bid since he took office at the beginning of 2017.
Roughly $18m (£13.6m) of that was in the last quarter.

Racial tensions during this election are high - from black candidate for Wisconsin Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes being left off voting lists and being declared dead on television just one day before his primary victory to voter suppression rules disproportionately affecting minorities.
Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama are no stranger to such attacks either and are still in the spotlight two years after leaving the White House.
A 2009 Facebook post of Karin Housley, a Republican running for the Minnesota US Senate seat, was unearthed in which she compared Ms Obama to a chimpanzee when the First Lady was meeting Queen Elizabeth.
The campaign said it was taken "out of context" and blamed the "radical left"
The country is poised to have what could be the largest gender gap in US electoral history.
According a new poll by ABC News, women registered to vote prefer Democratic candidates 59 per cent to 37 per cent supporting Republicans in 2018 races. Men are fairly evenly split on their party choice, 46 to 48.

While races heat up in almost every state around the country, the big Florida races were put on hold temporarily in the wake of Hurricane Michael.
The Category 4 storm ravaged the Florida Panhandle with wind speeds up to 155 mph. At least 19 people are dead, with emergency officials saying that number will rise as they make their way through destroyed buildings. Several dozen people are thought to be missing as well.
Just ahead of the storm, Republican Governor Rick Scott and Democratic Senator Bill Nelson had suspended their campaigns for the US Senate seat.
Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum, whose city was in the path of the storm and is running to be the state's first African-American governor and his opponent Republican Ron DeSantis did the same.
Read more about the effects of storm here and how that may shape the races as candidates speak about infrastructure improvements and climate change.
Outside of the midterms coverage it is all quiet at the White House on the events front. However Mr Trump is having quite a day on Twitter.
He has hit out at adult actor Stormy Daniels and her legal team after a defamation suit against him was dismissed by a judge on Monday.
Immigration is one of the major issues in the midterms, with Mr Trump having consistently pushed for hardline policies. His latest tweets have warned that Honduras could have its US aid cut over a caravan of refugees and migrants trying to make their way to the US.
Meanwhile, Facebook has said that it is cracking down on the spread of misinformation before the midterms.
Looking beyond the midterms, Democrat Elizabeth Warren is one of those who could run against Donald Trump in 2020. With that seemingly in mind, Ms Warren released a DNA report on Monday detailing the "strong evidence" that she has Native American ancestry - claims that have made her a target for Mr Trump.
The president has repeatedly called her "Pocahontas" in a derogatory manner and today he repeated the slur in the wake of the DNA report.
