As Donald Trump continues to refuse conceding the 2020 presidential race to Joe Biden, the president-elect was said to have spoken with Senate Republicans who have begun to admit he should at least receive intelligence briefings that have so far been denied.

On Friday afternoon most networks called Georgia for Mr Biden and North Carolina for Mr Trump bringing their respective electoral college vote totals to 306 to 232.

US federal and state cybersecurity officials, meanwhile, have delivered a direct rebuke to Donald Trump, who continues to allege irregularities and widespread fraud without evidence.

Chris Krebs, director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, said the 3 November vote was “the most secure in history" in a report published Thursday, and added that Americans should trust the result. His agency had not find any evidence of ballots being lost, deleted or altered, he said.

Mike Pomepo: ‘All the votes haven’t been counted’

Asked whether he was being “serious” when he said the US government would ensure a “smooth transition for a second Trump administration" on Tuesday,  Secretary of State Mike Pompeo appeared to double down on his remarks in an interview with Fox News.

“We’ll have a smooth transition, and we’ll see what the people ultimately decided when all the votes have been cast,” he told Fox News host Brett Baier.

Mr Trump, of course, has yet to accept his defeat to Joe Biden is impossible to turn around - with the president-elect’s lead in the closest-fought states substantially higher than any likely discrepancy found in typical recounts.

Georgia to recount ballots by hand

Georgia's Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced Wednesday that the state will conduct a hand recount of ballots cast in the 2020 US election.

Tuesday, the Trump campaign and the state's Republican Party sent a letter to Mr Raffensperger requesting a manual hand recount before the state certifies its results.

Donald Trump and the state GOP allege - without evidence - that there were voting discrepancies and electoral errors throughout the state.

A hand count will likely prevent Georgia from certifying its results for weeks as each ballot is opened and hand-examined by ballot counters.

Democrat compares Trump refusing to concede to rise of Hitler

A top Democrat on Capitol Hill has compared President Donald Trump’s refusal to concede to “what Hitler did in Germany” during a new interview as criticism grows over the president’s anti-Democratic attacks on the electoral process.

Rep. Jim Clyburn (D—SC) said on Tuesday night he was concerned the president was attempting to take on an authoritarian role despite losing to President-elect Joe Biden in the 2020 US elections and urged Americans to defend the results of the election.

Speaking to CNN’s Chris Cuomo, the House majority whip said: “I’m beginning to see what happened in Germany back in the 1930s. I never thought that could happen in this country.”

 Chris Riotta reports:

‘How do you elect a person president, then all of a sudden you’re going to give him the authority to be dictator? That’s what Hitler did in Germany.’

Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders to be frozen out of Biden cabinet, report says

Left-wing politicians Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders are reportedly set to be frozen out of president-elect Joe Biden's cabinet amid concerns the party could lose more seats in upcoming elections, writes Matt Mathers.

Democrats clung onto their House majority but lost five seats while Republicans picked up six and secured their majority in the Senate, barring a major upset in Georgia's runoff election.

Each side of the party is blaming the other for the poor results, which came after four years of White House chaos under Donald Trump. Left-wing Democrats say the party's offer on progressive causes was not strong enough.

Meanwhile, centrist Democrats say the left's 'socialist' messaging puts off Americans living outside big cities and urban areas.
