From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. President Donald Trump has teased a “big Trump Rally” in Georgia as he while reportedly considers plans to announce a second re-election bid as it becomes increasingly clear he has no path to overturn the results of the 2020 race.

The president said he would visit the state to support both Georgia Republican incumbents David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler, who are running for re-election in the January special elections, describing the two GOP candidates as “fantastic people who love their Country and love their State.”

He has meanwhile continued to promote a barrage of misinformation surrounding his electoral defeat, attacking President-elect Joe Biden while falsely claiming the Democratic Party rigged the election against him. The president’s false claims about systemic vote rigging have now been refuted by his own Justice Department and Department of Homeland Security.

Kayleigh McEnany complains Republican women disproportionately attacked by media

Trump’s White House press secretary has been on Fox and Friends this morning bemoaning liberal media sexism targeting conservative women while their Democratic counterparts are treated to “glowing profiles” being written about them.

I feel the comment below this clip amply sums up the matters.

The network has otherwise been engaged in hawking Christmas merchandise for right-wing relatives.

Biden plans to reverse Trump’s anti-LGBT+ policies including trans military ban

The president-elect is planning to reverse a number of the Trump administration’s anti-LGBT+ policies when he takes office on 20 January.

Biden is expected to use executive orders to reverse several policies implemented by the Trump administration, according to the AP.

He is planning on lifting the Trump administration’s ban on transgender people serving in the military and its “freedom to discriminate” rules, which allow healthcare providers to discriminate based on religious beliefs.

Biden will also reinstate guidance from the Obama administration, in which he served as vice president, which will allow transgender students to access facilities in accordance with their gender identity.

James Crump has this report.

Lincoln Project calls for revenge on ‘grubby sellouts’ who backed Trump

Rick Wilson, the outspoken co-founder of the Lincoln Project, has lashed out at Republicans who backed Donald Trump during his term in the White House, suggesting that they will increasingly distance themselves from the president in spite of his “absurd, doomed lawsuits”.

In a strongly-worded op-ed for The Daily Beast, the former Republican strategist writes that “the dark is rising for Trump’s sycophants, toadies and enablers”.

“Their tough-guy acts and f***-your-feelings s***-talk have become a furious whine of complaints and recriminations as a toxic slurry of rage and despair has left a stinging bile in the back of their throats that won’t go away. Trump lost, and they can’t spin their way past it," he says.

Biden has added about 1.15m followers to take him to a total of more than 20m since the 3 November vote.

And while his overall following remains at a much higher level, Trump has lost about 134,000 followers to bring his total down to about 88.8m, according to the website Factbase, which tracks the president’s Twitter activity.
