The musician was arrested in Stockholm on July 3 and charged with assault causing bodily harm.
It followed a fight he was involved in, with two others, on June 30 before his appearance at a music festival in the country.
The rapper, and the two with him at the time are being held in custody pending a trial due to start on July 30.
A$AP Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Myers, said his group was being followed by another group of men and that they had acted in self-defence.
Last week Mr Trump said he had spoken to Swedish prime minister Stefan Lofven about A$AP’s case.
And in a series of tweets overnight, the US president said he was “disappointed” with the Swedish head of state’s inability to act.
“Sweden has let our African American community down in the United States. I watched the tapes of A$AP Rocky, and he was being followed and harassed by troublemakers," he said.
“Treat Americans fairly!”
He called for the Scandanavian nation to give “A$AP Rocky his freedom”.
Other celebrities such as Kim Kardashian West, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj and Post Malone have also called for the rapper’s release.
Swedish prosecutor Daniel Suneson said he filed charges against the rapper and two others "having come to the conclusion that the events in question constitute a crime and despite claims of self-defence and provocation".
The BBC reported Suneson said: “there was an obvious risk that these three suspects would leave the country if they were released”.
