The reality star tweeted on Thursday in the wake of reports that the White House had intervened.
Linking to a TMZ report, Kardashian wrote: Thank you @realDonaldTrump , @SecPompeo, Jared Kushner & everyone involved with the efforts to Free ASAP Rocky & his two friends. Your commitment to justice reform is so appreciated.”
Kardashian’s tweet coincides with a report by Page Six claiming that the White House has “secured better jailhouse conditions” for A$AP Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers.
Mayer’s manager, John Ehmann, complained that the conditions at Kronoberg prison, where his client is being held, are “inhumane”, reportedly prompting the Urban Revitalization Coalition (URC) — an organisation set up by the Trump administration — to put Ehmann in contact with senior White House aide and son-in-law of Trump, Jared Kushner.
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West also reportedly urged Kushner to intervene in Mayer’s case.
“Jared immediately got Rocky moved to better living conditions,” Pastor Darrell Scott of the URC reportedly told Page Six. “They had this guy in a crap hole. I don’t know if it’s a different facility [that he’s now in], but he’s at least on a different floor. It’s better surroundings.”
Scott also reportedly told Page Six that he and colleague Kareem Lanier had informed Trump about the situation.
“[Trump] asked, ‘Do you like the guy, do you trust him?’” claimed Scott. “And he said, ‘OK, we’ll look into it then.’ ”
Claims that Mayers is being held in a “disease-ridden” prison where the food is “inedible” have been refuted by the governer of Kronoberg prison, who told the BBC that the institution is in “good condition”.
