The porn star has claimed she had an affair with the property mogul in 2006, and has sued to invalidate a confidentiality agreement she signed days before the 2016 presidential election, which prevents her from discussing it.
Ms Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, is also suing Mr Trump and his personal attorney, Michael Cohen, alleging defamation.
West Hollywood officials said Ms Daniels had “proven herself to be a profile in courage by speaking truth to power even under threats to her safety and extreme intimidation,” ABC7 reports.
The city also plans to proclaim 23 May “Stormy Daniels Day” in her honour.
“[The] Trump administration has been a direct threat to the people of the city of West Hollywood – our LGBTQ+ community, our immigrant community, women here in this community – so Stormy Daniels has really showed up as the woman to save the Republic,” the city’s mayor, John Duran said.
Ms Daniels will receive the key to the city on Wednesday, along with a city proclamation, at the adult entertainment store Chi Chi La Rue.
The city has previously called for the US Congress to start impeachment proceedings against Mr Trump.
“This came as a response to numerous violations of the Emoluments Clause of the United States Constitution, multiple violations of federal law as it relates to the employment of relatives, serious national security concerns resulting from potential interference with federal elections in 2016, and amid investigations of obstruction of justice,” a statement said at the time.
Ms Daniels recently appeared on Saturday Night Live to warn Mr Trump: “I know you don’t believe in climate change, but a storm’s a-coming, baby.”
When Mr Trump, played by Alec Baldwin, asked her to stop making such a big deal saying, ”Everyone knows it’s just an act,” Ms Daniels gave an icy reply: “I work in adult films; we’re not really known for our acting.”
