Puerto Rico's Director of Public Safety Elmer Roman also warned residents to keep their guard up as the hurricane's path veers.
The hurricane will likely hit the Carribean island today, It is expected to strengthen into a category 3 storm by the time it hits Florida.

FEMA has issued a series of instructions on what to do if affected by Hurricane Dorian.
Elmer Roman, the secretary of public security of Puerto Rico, has urged residents not to let their guards down as the hurricane's trajectory changes.
An 80-year-old man from Bayamon, Puerto Rico died while preparing for Hurricane Dorian, public safety secretary Elmer Roman said during a briefing Wednesday afternoon. The man had climbed onto his roof to clean a drain.
"We must be sure to do wellness checks on residents who live alone and get them to shelter," Mr Roman said.
The Florida Division of Emergency Management is recommending that residents prepare 7 days of supplies ahead of Hurricane Dorian. They've listed what they suggest storing here:
Florida governor Ron DeSantis has officially declared a state of emergency as Hurricane Dorian approaches. Here's his statement:
"Today, I am declaring a state of emergency to ensure Florida is fully prepared for Hurricane Dorian. It's important for Floridians on the East Coast to monitor this storm closely. Every Florida resident should have seven days of supplies, including food, water and medicine, and should have a plan in case of disaster. I will continue to monitor Hurricane Dorian closely with emergency management officials. The state stands ready to support all counties along the coast as they prepare."
