Police search for ‘armed and dangerous’ gunman after four wounded in Texas

The gunman suspected of shooting several people at a Texas high school on Wednesday has been taken into custody, police say.

Timothy George Simpkins, 18, handed himself in to police just after 2pm.

Mr Simpkins has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Kevin Kolbye, assistant chief of Arlington Police, announced the arrest at a press conference.

Mr Simpkins made contact with detectives through an attorney, and drove himself to a police station, police said.

The gun involved in the shooting, a .45 calibre handgun, was recovered from England Parkway, Grand Prairie.

The gun is going to be turned over to The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to run ballistics.

Three people were taken to hospital after the shooting, two suffering gunshot wounds, and one with minor injuries.

A 15-year-old male was in critical condition on Wednesday afternoon.

A male, 25, and a teenage girl were described as being in a good condition. A fourth victim was treated at the scene.

Suspect believed to be traveling in 2018 silver Dodge Charger

The suspect, 18-year-old, Timothy George Simpkins, is thought to be driving a 2018 silver Dodge Charger.

Police have said that the shooting began after a fight broke out in a classroom and a student pulled out a firearm and discharged the weapon.

“This was not a random act of violence,” Kevin Kolbye, the assistant chief of Arlington Police, said during a press briefing.

“I have a high confidence there was only one shooter,” added.

Arlington Mayor Jim Ross: “We will find him"

The Mayor of Arlington, Texas, Jim Ross has said that one of the victims was “treated and released on scene with just a glancing wound”.

He told ABC News that “the other three were transferred to local hospitals” but that he didn’t “know the severity of their injuries”.

He said it was his “understanding” that the victims were three students and one teacher.

ABC reported that one victim was in surgery.

In the last hour, 17 school buses with students aboard have been escorted by police as they move away from the area and to reunite the students with their parents.

Parents speak during active shooting before ‘all clear’ given

Parents of students at Timberview High School spoke to reporters while the active shooting situation was still ongoing before the “all clear” had been given.

One father said that “not knowing is the worst feeling in the world”.

A mother said that “we’re all scared, we’re all worried, we’re all sick ... We’re hoping there’s that there’s no casualties and that all of our babies can come out of that school okay”.

15-year-old male in critical condition, Arlington police say

Arlington Police has said that a 15-year-old male is in critical condition after the shooting at Timberview High School.

They added that a teenage girl is in good condition and will soon be discharged from the hospital.

Among the victims are also a 25-year-old man who is in good condition and a fourth victim who has already received treatment.

Suspect in custody, will be charged with aggravated assault

Kevin Kolbye, the assistant chief of Arlington Police, said at a press conference that the suspect, 18-year-old Timothy George Simpkins is in custody and will be charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Mr Kolbye added that one victim has left surgery and is now in the ICU.
