Cameraman Adam Ward, 27, was shot dead alongside reporter Alison Parker, 24, during a live TV interview in Moneta, Virginia.
Adam Ward graduated from Salem High School and Virginia Tech University in 2011. He began working for the station shortly after graduation in 2011.
Melissa Ott, his fiancée, was in the control room, watching the horrific scene. Today was her last day at the station and Mr Ward planned on leaving the station for a new job in Charlotte.
Their Kimberly McBroom, the station's morning anchor, tweeted her disbelief at the loss of her colleague: "Heartbroken over the loss of two members of our WDBJ7 family... There are simply no words."
Robert Denton, professor and chair of the Department of Communication, taught Mr Ward in his classes and issued a statement after his passing.
“Adam was a delightful person. He worked hard — you could tell he loved what he was doing. He wasn’t afraid to pitch in and do whatever was necessary for the broadcast. He did whatever was needed with a smile and with grace. He was simply a very nice young man and very professional.”
