Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Seventy years after dogfights raged over England in the summer and autumn of 1940, the experiences of five Battle of Britain air force pilots have been recorded in a new 12-minute video celebrating the contribution made by The Few.

The film was produced by the Royal Mint in association with the Battle of Britain Fighter Association and Battle of Britain Trust. To mark the unveiling of the film it presented each of the five veterans featured in it with a limited edition Battle of Britain 70th Anniversary Sterling silver £5 Alderney coin.

“We are all indebted to the brave airmen who fought on our behalf and they deserve to be remembered,” Dave Knight, director of Commemorative Coin at the Royal Mint, said.

“We hope [the film] will bring people closer to the history that has made our nation what it is today. We are honoured to be able to present these five veterans with a tribute to their determination and action.”
