Your support makes all the difference.Calvin Harris has recalled how all "hell that broke loose" following his highly-publicised break-up with Taylor Swift thanks to a few rash tweets.
The aftermath of the demise of Swift and Harris’ 15-month relationship was a far cry from the carefully-constructed, amicable statement he wrote on Twitter confirming their split: “The only truth here is that a relationship came to an end and what remains is a huge amount of love and respect.”
In the following weeks, Swift was pictured kissing the actor Tom Hiddleston on rocks in Rhode Island, her team revealed she was secretly a co-writer on one of the Dumfries-born DJs biggest songs, Harris embarked on a Twitter rant against Swift by bringing up her long-rumoured feud with Katy Perry and he posed for a picture in Las Vegas with her new nemesis Kim Kardashian-West.
“It’s very difficult when something I consider so personal plays out very publicly,” he told GQ. “The aftermath of the relationship was way more heavily publicised than the relationship itself. When we were together, we were very careful for it not to be a media circus. She respected my feelings in that sense. I’m not good at being a celebrity.
“But when it ended, all hell broke loose. Now I see that Twitter thing as a result of me succumbing to pressure. It took me a minute to realise that none of that stuff matter. I’m a positive guy.
“For both of us it was the wrong situation. It clearly wasn’t right so it ended, but all that stuff that happened afterwards…”
Days after Swift’s new relationship with Hiddleston (which also came to an end a matter of days ago) was splashed across tabloid front pages, it emerged the “Trouble” singer had co-written Harris’ hit song with Rihanna “This Is What You Came For” under a pseudonym. Harris criticised his former girlfriend in a series of tweets for revealing the credit and accused her and her team of trying to make him look bad and trying to “bury” him.
“I know you’re off tour and you need someone new to try and bury like Katy ETC but I’m not that guy, sorry. I won’t allow it,” he wrote in a now deleted tweet.
Of the outburst, Harris said he was trying to “protect my one talent from being belittled”.
A representative for Swift did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
