From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Calvin Harris has confirmed the end of his relationship with Taylor Swift.

Reports circulated yesterday that the pair had broken up after 15 months of dating. Amid the reports, various theories as to why the superstar duo had called it quits emerged. So, Harris took it upon himself to set the record straight regarding the circumstances of their split.

Writing on Twitter to his 7.5million followers, he said there remains “a huge amount of love and respect” between the couple.

Swift, who has not released any statement of her own, supported Harris’ words by re-tweeting the statement.

The fan favourites and hailed ‘power couple’ were first pictured together in March 2015 and Forbes soon rated them as the world’s highest paid celebrity couple with an estimated combined wealth of $146 million, meaning they de-crowned Beyonce and Jay Z.

The couple sparsely posted photos of each other on Instagram and were spotted congratulating each other at award ceremonies. In March, they shared a Snapchat video with fans of a cake marking their first anniversary.
