From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

With his elder brother, the Duke of Cambridge, welcoming a second child into the fold with his wife, the Duchess of Cambridge, there is still much talk around who will tie the knot with Britain's most eligible Royal bachelor.
For Victoria McRae, 21, waiting outside the Sydney Opera House, she felt she had an opportunity with Prince Harry and decided not to miss out on her chance.
Prince Harry, who has come to the end of a one month tour with the Australian Defence Force, was meeting fans in Sydney when he came across McRae. She was wearing an Australian flag dress covered in sequins, a plastic gold crown and a sign that read, "Marry me Harry".
Not long after proposing to Prince Harry, she asked him for a kiss. To see what happened when the Prince leaned in for a kiss on the cheek, you can watch the video below:
Following the momentous kiss, McRae said, "I got to kiss him. And I got to kiss the premier, who I didn't know was the premier," the 21-year-old student said. "I got Harry's lips, I only got the premier on the cheek."
Other signs held by fans outside Sydney's iconic landmark included "His Royal Hotness" and "Gingers Rule".
Prince Harry's niece, Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, was born on May 2, and the Prince said he could not wait to meet her and that she was "absolutely beautiful".
The 31-year-old Royal will leave Australia soon for an eight-day tour of New Zealand.
