From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Your support makes all the difference.Coverage of Bobbi Kristina Brown’s tragic incident has varied greatly in levels of both accuracy and taste since she was found unresponsive in a bathtub in her Roswell, Georgia townhouse last week.
The circumstances of the event have drawn comparisons to the death of her mother, Whitney Houston, who was found unresponsive in a bath on February 11 2012. She died at the age of 48.
Since then, there have been a number of wildly speculative reports that Bobbi Kristina’s condition had deteriorated to the point at which her family planned to take her off life support on the same day her mother had died.
However, the family have since confirmed that her health is actually improving. Following a statement from Bobbi Kristina’s lawyer on Tuesday calling the claims “egregious and false”, her aunt, Leolah Brown, added that she was “doing well” and was even “opening her eyes”.
“So many signs that she will be OK, despite what people are saying over the internet, Krissy is fine,” she told Fox 5 Atlanta.
“She’s opening her eyes and there’s a few more things that she’s doing. Krissy is doing well right now.”
Roswell police department has since launched a criminal investigation into the incident. As of yet, no suspects have been named and no charges brought against anyone.
“I saw this coming,” Leolah continued. “I told her not to trust anyone.”
She went on to say she did not believe Bobbi Kristina could have harmed herself.
“Krissi would never do anything to herself. She loved life too much. She had too much going on. She had too much ahead of her.”
