Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Queen is currently on the search for a social media manager.

The Royal Family’s website currently has a job listings advertising for the role of a digital communications officer to find "new ways to maintain the Queen's presence in the public eye and on the world stage”.

According to the advert, the job will involve managing the daily news flow on digital and social networking platforms, creating content, as well as researching and writing features.

The job will be located at Buckingham Palace and will pay approximately £30,000, depending on experience, and require the employee to work 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

The successful applicant will also be awarded a 15 per cent employer contribution pension scheme (after six months), 33 days annual leave (including bank holidays), free lunch and access to training and development to support professional development.

Applicants are expected to be degree educated, boast “good photography skills”, and have natural communication skills.

“This is your opportunity to use your digital expertise to deliver the exceptional,” a section from the listing reads.

The listing comes months after the Queen posted her first Instagram post during a visit to London’s Science Museum.

"Today, as I visit the Science Museum I was interested to discover a letter from the Royal Archives, written in 1843 to my great-great-grandfather Prince Albert," she wrote in the post on the @TheRoyalFamily Instagram account.

Last month, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex broke the record for the fastest time to gain 1 million followers on Instagram.

At the time, Kensington Palace announced it had launched a verified Instagram account, under the handle @sussexroyal, on behalf of the royal couple.

The account accrued 1 million followers in five hours and 45 minutes, according to the global authority on record-breaking achievements Guinness World Records.

The couple announced the arrival of their newborn son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, on the social media platform on 6 May.

The closing date for applications for the social media manager position ends before midnight on 26 May. You can apply here.
