From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Paulina Porizkova has shared a nude photo to Instagram in solidarity with Elizabeth Hurley, who faced criticism over a similar photo shared to her own account.

Last month, Hurley posted a photo of herself topless to her Instagram, which she captioned: “How could I resist?”

The 55-year-old’s post prompted a range of reactions, with some praising her, while others, including Piers Morgan, criticised the photo, with the Good Morning Britain host accusing Hurley of being “thirsty and creepy”.

"Yeah, she looks fabulous, but what are you doing Liz?" Morgan said during an episode of the show. "A bit of snow and you get your kit off. And who took the pictures? Your [18]-year-old son, you said, took the pictures? Isn’t that creepy? What is all this! It’s what we call in the business ‘thirsty and creepy.’"

On Tuesday, Porizkova addressed the backlash in the caption of her own photo, which sees her posing in her bedroom with her arm covering her body.

“Put your clothes on,” the model wrote. “Today, on a serious note, thoughts inspired by the brouhaha around a sexy photo of Elizabeth Hurley.

“When I was in my twenties and thirties, the less I wore - the more popular I was. In my forties, I could walk around practically naked and illicit nothing more than a ticket for public indecency.

"At fifty, I am reviled for it. ‘Put on your clothes, grandma. Hungry for attention, are you? A little desperate here? You’re pathetic,’” the 55-year-old continued.

Porizkova then took the opportunity to question why “sexiness and nudity” are “applauded in a women’s youth” but “reviled in her maturity?”

“Because of men,” Porizkova continued, adding that "men are biologically programmed to spread their seed, inserting themselves into fertile containers which advertise their viability through youth”.

“What does this say for men who do not want children? Men who have all the kids they wanted? Men who don’t want kids right this second? Unevolved,” she wrote, adding that women who then feel they “need to be validated by the male gaze” are often described as “insecure”.

“The only thing that is pathetic here is allowing others to set your priorities,” Porizkova concluded, before adding the hashtags #SexyHasNoExpirationDate and #BetweenJLoAndBettyWhite.

The post was met with praise from Porizkova’s followers, who applauded her for making the statement.

“Amen. And you look incredible,” one person wrote.

Another commented: “I love this and your observation is spot on! Thank you!”
