The A Walk to Remember actress, who is currently expecting her first child with husband Taylor Goldsmith, discussed the uncertainty leading up to her pregnancy in an interview with Romper.
According to Moore, after trying for a baby for a while, she visited a fertility specialist, who told her that she had a problem with her uterus and may have endometriosis.
Following the diagnosis, the 36-year-old said she was “fully prepared” to undergo surgery to treat the issue, recalling that she felt it was “nice to have a plan” and an explanation for why she had not yet gotten pregnant.
“I was fully prepared to go have surgery and fix my uterus and hopefully get rid of the endometriosis, if it was there,” she said. “It was nice to have a plan and to know, OK, well, this is why I haven’t been pregnant yet.”
However, just before she was scheduled to have the surgery, Moore had an appointment with her fertility specialist, who informed her that she was ovulating but that there was a “slim” chance that she would get pregnant.
“So I was like, all right, whatever,” she recalled of her reaction to the doctor. “And lo and behold…”
According to Moore, who announced in September 2020 that she was pregnant, the entire experience made her wish she had known more about the process from the beginning.
She said: “I guess I understand why doctors tell you, like: ‘Oh, just try for a year, and then if nothing happens, you can start sort of investigating.’ But I was like, man, I wish I had known before. It would have been a game changer had I had that information.”
As for her reaction to finding out she was pregnant, Moore said she was initially cautious of getting excited, recalling that she “sort of was holding my breath until 12 weeks”.
Moore shared the news that she was pregnant on social media with a series of black-and-white photographs of herself and Goldsmith.
She captioned the photos, which showed Goldsmith holding her stomach: “Baby Boy Goldsmith coming early 2021.”
