On Monday, the luxury fashion house announced it had recruited the actor as its latest men's autumn/winter 2019 campaign star.
In a series of black-and-white campaign images and footage from the campaign shoot, photographed by British creative David Sims, the 16-year-old is dressed in several monochrome outfits.
The British fashion photographer’s images have been published in several internationally-renowned magazines such as The Face, French Vogue, and Dazed & Confused. Sims has also shot campaigns images for the likes of Givenchy, Valentino, and Stella McCartney, with US Vogue once stating that his vision was “setting a new standard” for fashion photography.
Wolfhard’s ensembles, designed by YSL’s creative director Anthony Vaccarello, include a black leather jacket with a double white stripe trim on the waistband and a black double-breasted suit with a dotted shirt and skinny tie.
The campaign shots have been praised by Stranger Things and Saint Laurent fans alike, with singer Shawn Mendes describing the images as “amazing” on Instagram.
Others have compared Wolfhard to a young Bob Dylan.
“Major Bob Dylan vibes love it!! Thanks!!! YSL x Finn team up is amazing as always! [sic]” one user commented on a photograph from the campaign.
Another added: “Mini Bob Dylan.”
“I just love this kid! @ysl you keep picking the best models to show off your masterpieces of clothing. So in love.[sic],” commented another.
Wolfhard isn’t the only Stranger Things star to have dipped their toe in the fashion industry in recent years.
In February 2018, Wolfhard’s co-star in the Eighties-inspired Netflix show Millie Bobby Brown made her debut in a Calvin Klein campaign, starring alongside actor Paris Jackson.
Months later, Brown announced that she was joining Italian clothing company Moncler as the face of its latest campaign on Instagram.
Earlier this month, Saint Laurent revealed the brand had teamed up with actor Keanu Reeves for a new campaign.
Reeves’ campaign images were similarly shot in monochrome by photographer Sims and were followed by shoots including the likes of Saint Laurent muse Jamie Bochert and actor and singer Charlotte Gainsbourg.
Stranger Things season 3 will be released on Netflix on 4 July 2019.
