From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Jennifer Lopez may be internationally known for her successful singing career but the US star continues to make waves on the red carpet.

On Wednesday, the Bronx-born performer celebrated her 50th birthday following a career that has seen her star in Hollywood films such as Maid in Manhattan and Selena, as well as receive musical accolades including the MTV Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and the People’s Choice Awards for “Favourite Celebrity Judge” on American Idol.

During her near three decade career, the star has released several perfumes, clothing lines, eyewear collections, and recently announced she will be launching a skin-care brand later this year.

In April, Lopez followed in the footsteps of Rihanna, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga when she received the Council of Fashion Designers of America's (CFDA) Fashion Icon Award.

Speaking of the news, Diane von Furstenberg, fashion designer and a chairwoman of the CFDA board, said the decision was made based on the way the singer uses fashion to “express confidence and power”.

“Both designers and fans look forward to her fashion statements," von Furstenberg explained.
