From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

US presidential candidate Joe Biden is debuting his own island on the hit Nintendo Switch game Animal Crossing: New Horizons

The former vice president’s campaign is teaming up with Kinda Funny Games to premiere the digital project, which will be streamed on the Kinda Funny Games Twitch channel on at 7pm BST on Friday, 16 October.

Animal Crossing is a social simulation franchise in which players are able to live among a village of cute, anthropomorphic animals.

New Horizons, released earlier this year, gave players the ability to customise the islands on which their avatars live.

Other players can then visit your island via the game’s online multiplayer mode. Further details about the design and contents of the Biden island are as yet unknown.

Biden is far from the first well-known public figure to associate themselves with New Horizons.

Brie Larson, Maisie Williams, Elijah Wood, Danny Trejo, Stephen Fry and chef Guy Fieri are just some of the other celebrities to have made known their devotion to the game.

Popular congressional representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is also a known Animal Crossing player.
