Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The world’s 32 best Fifa players have gathered in London to play for the chance to be crowned world champion at the 2019 Fifa eWorld Cup.

Alongside the trophy and bragging rights, the winner will also take home a $250,000 (£210,000) grand prize.

The tournament takes place over three days at the O2 in London, from 2-4 August, with 16 of the players on Playstation and 16 on Xbox. The best of each stream will meet in the final, for a two-legged match to decide the world champion.

Those taking part are the best of the best when it comes to Fifa, meaning any of the players has a legitimate chance of taking home the winner’s trophy.

A pause and some final changes here, as Nicolas tries to find two more goals with 20 minutes left.

Andrew Griffin4 August 2019 16:45

Nicolas needs to score here. And he's really struggling to do so: wasting chances, missing his timings. It's hard to see this turning around...

Andrew Griffin4 August 2019 16:47

MoAuba really relaxing here, passing the ball around and slinging it back to the keeper. Just three minutes left and two goals to get.

GOAL. nicolas99fc scores. 5-4 on aggregate. 89'.

Is he turning this around?

Andrew Griffin4 August 2019 16:49

MoAuba doing everything he can to hold onto the ball and shut this down.

GOAL. Nicolas scores!! 5-5 on aggregate!!

Andrew Griffin4 August 2019 16:49

What a turnaround. Nicolas had been absolutely down and out. The last two goals came at 89' and 93'.

Full time and we go into extra time.

Andrew Griffin4 August 2019 16:50

What an incredible last few minutes. MoAuba must be kicking himself here. He's given away a three goal cushion, and threw it away on the very last play of the game.

Andrew Griffin4 August 2019 16:51

Kick off in extra time. 30 more minutes of play to decide whether MoAuba threw it away or if Nicolas has truly launched perhaps the best comeback in Fifa eWorld Cup history.
