Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Re-live the latest action from the Spanish Grand Prix where Lewis Hamilton completed a dominant lights-to-flag victory to retake the lead in the drivers' championship.

Hamilton got away much better than Mercedes teammate and pole-sitter Valtteri Bottas, who went into Turn One alongside Hamilton and the Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel. With Vettel pushed wide, Max Verstappen was able to slide through and take third, with the Red Bull driver remaining rather unchallenged for the rest of the Grand Prix.

A late safety car bunched the field up after Lando Norris and Lance Stroll crashed at Turn Two, taking both drivers out of the race as the only retirements of the Grand Prix. However, Hamilton powered away at the restart and claimed the extra point for fastest lap on his way to victory. Re-live the live updates below.

What time does it start?

The Spanish Grand Prix starts at 2:10pm BST on Sunday 12 May.

Where can I watch it?

The race will be shown live on Sky Sports F1 from 12.30pm. Highlights will be shown on Channel 4 at 7pm.

Lewis Hamilton:

"Firstly I just have to put it down to this incredible team. This is history in the making to have five one-twos so very proud of that and very proud of everyone back in the factory. It's been a very hard first five races, it's a hard car but we always get along. It's a long ride down to Turn One so I'm grateful it got me there first.

"It was obviously an interesting start, very close. I saw a red dot go around the back of both of us, so I had no idea if they were very close and I knew Valtteri would brake deep. Thankfully it wasn't a repeat of Baku.

"We'd just done a pit stop and needed to get the tyres warm and I knew that getting the tyres warm would be crucial to all of that. I haven't had a fastest lap this season so I thought it was about time."

Valtteri Bottas:

"I had a weird start, there was some strange stuff happening with the clutch. It was biting then releasing, biting then releasing.

"I've had some good results but I'm keen to find out why the start didn't go well."

Max Verstappen:

"It was a hectic first corner so I backed out and it actually gave me good position for the next two corners. The Mercedes had too much pace but we were good here today."
