Hamilton was within one second of Verstappen when he was called in for a second pit stop - Mercedes hoping that a switch to fresh tyres would provide the British star with a chance to usurp Verstappen. The strategy move by Formula One's all-conquering team proved inspired.
Hamilton left the pit lane 21 seconds behind Verstappen with 21 laps remaining, the Briton lighting up the time sheets before catching the back of Verstappen's Red Bull. The world champion then made the move for victory stick around the outside of Verstappen on lap 67. Re-live the action below:

Lap 43: Verstappen's composure has been impressive today. His team inform him that Hamilton has seen the best of his tyres. But there's still a long way to go in this race.
Lap 44: Bottas is forced to move out of the way for Verstappen. That's not how he would have anticipated things going today. He's back in ninth now, but still has a chance to finish today with some points.
Lap 46: Verstappen's lead over Hamilton is now 1.046 seconds. Both drives sound frustrated on the radio to their respective teams. This has been an intriguing battle between two excellent drivers, and there should be plenty more to come.
Lap 48: Hamilton pits! Mercedes clearly want to put more pressure on Verstappen. Hamilton comes out ahead of Leclerc, who's way back in third. His sights will be set on Verstappen now.
Lap 49: Red Bull keep Verstappen out for another lap! If he pits now he'll come out behind Hamilton, so he might just have to stay out.
Lap 50: "I don't know if that was the right move," says Hamilton. But he's reassured by his team. He's 18.269 seconds behind Verstappen, and that gap is shortening all the time.
Lap 52: It remains to be seen whether Mercedes' decision to pit Hamilton was a masterstroke. He's certainly lapping quicker than Verstappen at the moment, and the leader knows he'll come out in second should he pit now.
Lap 53: Romain Grosjean retires from the race. Hamilton has the gap down to 16.1 seconds.
Lap 54: Verstappen puts in a good lap and now has a clear track in front of him. Much depends now on how well his tyres hold out.
