The reigning champion is romping clear at the top of the table, with last Sunday's British Grand Prix triumph putting him 30 points ahead of Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas in the world championship standings. After dominating last weekend, the two Mercs go into the session as red hot favourites to continue their dominance, but the hot weather that has baked Britain this weekend has been causing havoc with the Pirelli tyres.
As a result, the likes of Max Verstappen in the Red Bull and Daniel Ricciardo in the Renault will harbour hopes of an upset this afternoon, while Ferrari look in store for another difficult weekend. Follow the live updates below.

Q3Hamlton goes marginally quicker, but behind him Bottas is on a flyer and pips his Mercedes teammate by 0.063s!
Valtteri Bottas: "It feels good. I just love qualifying, especially when it goes well, and it's a really good feeling to get everything to go right.
"Really pleased with that and again it's an honour to drive this Mercedes.
"Of course mentally when you start from pole you can think about winning the race. The first jb is to get this car off the line like I did last weekend, but the mentality is to win tomorrow."
Lewis Hamilton: "That wasn't that great, but Valtteri did a good job and deserves the pole. For me, it just wasn't a great last lap.
"I don't think many people will be managing on the softer tyres. I really was managing it last week and didn't make it, so I don't think anyone will be doing a one-stop tomorrow.
Nico Hulkenberg: "Crazy, the last week or seven or eight days. Last week I had the high to come back and then the low on Sunday. This week I've felt much more settled.
"Q3 was just head down, full beans to give whatever I had, so I'm a bit surprised to be here.
"That's definitely going to hurt tomorrow not having last week's experience, but we'll do what we can and I'll try to learn fast to keep the car where it is.
"It's only Saturday, it's always Sunday that matters most. It's nice to get these highlights but it's not job done yet.
