Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The Apprentice returned with another crop of 16 candidates hoping to become Lord Sugar’s next business partner.
The first episode of series 14 saw the newcomers travel to Malta for the fan favourite shopping task, something we usually have to wait until later in the series for.
As ever our main host was Lord Alan Sugar, with ever-faithful Karren Brady and Claude Littner by his side.
Follow along with the first episode as it happened.

The Apprentice will air every Wednesday at 9pm on BBC One from 3 October.
And in a first for The Apprentice, the women managed to bring back the two of the same item.
Jackie and Sarah are coming back to face Lord Sugar alongside PM Jasmine. Things certainly aren't looking good for Jasmine...
Time for the totally-staged-definitely-fake secretary phone call to bring the losers contestants back in. Now for the three of them to battle it out.
So here's how I see it:
Jackie was Queen of hindsight but didn't really do anything
Sarah irritated everyone, but she got the job done
Jasmine isn't used to dealing with a huge group of people shouting at her while running around Malta
As an editor slowly pushes the fader up on the tense music, that can only mean it's time for Lord Sugar to bring out the finger...
And it's Sarah! With no dilly-dallying, Lord Sugar has fired Sarah.
And as we leave the contestants to their cliches and comforting in the house, the first episode is over.
So what can we expect next week? In the same teams - minus Sarah of course - the contestants will be making their own comic books.
