Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Strictly got serious this week as voting lines officially opened, leaving one couple at risk of being unceremoniously eliminated from the competition before it has truly begun.
Nobody wants to be the first to go home, so the stakes are high – especially with movie week on the horizon next weekend.
Comedian Seann Walsh and his partner Katya jived to Elton John’s “I’m Still Standing” while YouTuber Joe Sugg and his partner, Dianne, performed a Charleston set to wedding disco favourite “Cotton Eye Joe".

'You'll be back and you'll be better' says Brrrruno. Someone give Katie a big hug.
Graeme and Oti entered on a cricket bat last week. Gimmicks out the window tonight, Oti is promising a classic American Smooth and if he can get the frame right this could be fantastic.
Oh no, I spoke too soon. Better once the tempo of the music picked up, but there was some proper dad dancing going on and ugly hands. Oti must miss Danny Mac every hour of every training session. Nice lift though.
Darcey said she's just confused. Oti is such a fabulous choreographer but this wasn't her finest hour. Shirley is offended Graeme didn't bring the elegance for an American Smooth and says it missed the mark. Brrrrruno is literally laughing in his face. Wow, it's not a strong start tonight - this is where it becomes obvious that they had three weeks to train for Week One and only five days for Week Two...
Graeme and Oti: American Smooth scores
Craig: 3
Darcey: 5
Shirley: 3
Bruno: 4
Total: 15
'No-one likes a limp man on the dance floor, I didn't nail it' says Graeme. Oh well.
Time for Kate and Aljaz, love this couple! They're very excited about this tango, 'It's much more my dance,' says Kate. Bring it on. Seriously, hurry up. The VTs are naff, even if you stick children in there.
Kate's certainly giving good tango face. Looks like Aljaz is doing a lot of the work. Weird ending.
The judges have cheered up! Craig tells Aljaz he has transformed Kate and Shirley even says she could win. Wow. Did someone slip them a G&T and some Haribo in the last five minutes?
Kate and Aljaz: Tango scores
Craig: 6
Darcey: 7
Shirley: 7
Bruno: 7
Total: 27
'You're a dancer, Kate!' gushes Aljaz. At last, a couple who can run off smiling!
And Kate reaches Strictly immortality thanks to this gif...
