Stranger Things star David Harbour has apparently confirmed a major season three mystery in an Instagram post.
The actor, who plays Jim Hopper in the Netflix show, shared a photo of himself with Salma Hayek, saying his heart continues to “bleed” for two specific Stranger Things characters even as he moves onto a new Marvel project.
Harbour will appear in Black Widow, scheduled to be released in 2020, while Hayek has been cast in The Eternals.
“Even as I move into this magical @marvelstudios world with colossal talents like @salmahayek ... My heart still bleeds for them,” Harbour wrote in an apparent reference to his own Stranger Things character, Chief Hopper, and his love interest Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder). “And the life that could have been. Post a romantic Enzo’s eve.”
In the season three final, Jim and Joyce are supposed to meet for a date at a restaurant called Enzo’s, but these plans fall through when the clan ends up fighting evil forces.
Notably, Joyce is forced to close a gate to the Upside Down, which results in Jim’s apparent death.
In the photo shared by Harbour, the actor’s outfit includes a reference to “Jopper”, the couple name assigned by fans to Jim and Joyce, which adds a layer of sentimentality to the image.
Some fans, however, weren’t entirely convinced by Harbour’s post and remained convinced that Jim is actually still alive, despite the events portrayed in season three.
Netflix has yet to confirm that Stranger Things will get a fourth season, but producer Shawn Levy has expressed confidence that this will happen.
Stranger Things season three is on Netflix now and you can find a rolling list of news and updates about season four here.
