From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Made in Chelsea viewers have accused Zara McDermott of “fake crying” during Monday (19 October) night’s episode of the reality show.

The former Love Island contestant, who has appeared on MiC for two seasons, revealed that she had cheated on boyfriend Sam Thompson while appearing on The X Factor: Celebrity last year.

In an emotional scene from this week’s episode, McDermott asked Thompson for forgiveness but broke down as he told her that he needed some time and space.

However, viewers were less convinced by the heavily staged scene, accusing the reality star of “fake crying” for the cameras. “I’m getting second-hand embarrassment from Zara’s fake crying,” one viewer wrote, with another replying: “I’ve never seen a teardrop fall from her eyes.”

This was echoed by another sceptical fan, who tweeted that McDermott’s face was “bone dry”.

“Zara’s fake crying is worse than my GCSE Drama performance,” one viewer wrote, adding: “I got a D.”

Made in Chelsea follows a group of young socialites living in the wealthy west London borough of Chelsea.

The show debuted on E4 in 2011 and is currently airing its 20th season.
