Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

After the heartbreaking news that it is in fact not coming home, how better to cheer yourself up than a healthy dose of Love Island.

Pushed back to 10pm due to extra time in the England vs Croatia game, there was a lot that needed sorting in tonight's episode.

Tension filled the villa after new boy Idris told Laura the truth about Georgia and Jack's romantic moment.

Thankfully after some very awkward chats by the pool, it seems everyone has decided to let it go (Laura is fine. She's definitely fine everyone, OKAY?!).

New contestant Alexandra joined the line-up, taking Dr Alex and New Jack for some surprisingly successful dates, much to the annoyance of Laura (she is DEFINITELY STILL FINE).

But it was Megan and Wes that would end up being the star of tonight's show. The loved-up pair cemented their tumultuous relationship by branding each other boyfriend and girlfriend.

Oh yes, and Samira is still really sad about Frankie.

Follow our take on the villa drama as it happened.

Love Island continues weekdays and Sundays at 9pm on ITV2.

The concept of two people of opposite sexes having similar names is blowing the contestants minds. Alex AND Alexandra? How do they come up with this stuff?

And we have our two separate tribes. Women in the kitchen, boys on the deck. Like the Pink Ladies and the T-Birds; here's hoping they break into song soon.

"I love the smell of petrol." It is comments like this, Dr Alex, that seems to be putting people off.

Poor, poor Samira. I'm guessing waterworks are going to start any second...

And there they are.

In case you missed it, Frankie - who Samira was coupled with - was voted off by the public. After dating for a whole week, Samira has not stopped crying since he left. Definitely not an over reaction.

The next love-drama for the islanders? Will Wes and Megan become a proper, full-blown couple? It may have been a week ago, but I'm not sure Laura could take another hit tonight.

Dressed up in their finest, tightest clothes, drowning their sorrows (presumably over the Three Lions loss) it's time to make awkward conversations seem like they contain genuine romance.

So much blatant gender stereotyping on tonight's episode. Comments about the women going shopping, the boys going down the pub. We love you Iain Stirling, but come on, you're better than that.

Here's the moment, Megan is taking Wes off to the luminous seating area. As the others say, "so much sauce in that couple."
