Love Island 2019: Amber and Joanna talk it out over Michael

Your support helps us to tell the story

My recent work focusing on Latino voters in Arizona has shown me how crucial independent journalism is in giving voice to underrepresented communities.

Your support is what allows us to tell these stories, bringing attention to the issues that are often overlooked. Without your contributions, these voices might not be heard.

Every dollar you give helps us continue to shine a light on these critical issues in the run up to the election and beyond

What a week it's been on Love Island. The first month was clearly the calm before the storm as the villa showdowns just keep coming.

Tonight's episode continued to deal with the fallout from Tuesday night's dramatic recoupling that saw Michael ditch Amber in favour of new contestant Joanna – a decision that sparked the wrath of Amber's best friend, Anna. Then, there was Curtis who revealed that his feelings for recently-appointed "half girlfriend" Amy may not have been as genuine as he initially let on.

Here are the four biggest talking points from tonight's Love Island.

1. Curtis and Amy are done

Amy would make a great interviewer. She spent tonight's episode compiling a list of questions – that later turned into a series of truth-bomb statements (think: "You never liked me and I was just a placeholder until something better came along") – all designed to grill Curtis over his feelings for his behaviour with Jourdan in Casa Amor. Ahead of the chat, Curtis was all about getting Amy back. 10 minutes later, he told her he couldn't promise he wouldn't stray should another girl he liked walk into the villa. "You're a compulsive liar," Amy said as another couple bit the dust.

2. Amber and Joanna are... friends?

Well, not quite, but the two would-be rivals had a fairly civil chat over afternoon tea (in the 30 degree heat? Get those girls a cocktail). They aired their grievances with Amber concluding that Joanna is a "nice" girl. Her chief problem (surprise, surprise) rests with Michael – not because he ditched her in the recoupling; she's slowly getting over that. No, Amber wants Michael to apologise for the way he spoke to her in last night's episode. By the time tonight's outing had ended, though, he hadn't even so much as looked her way. Why does the word "coward" spring to mind?

3. Tommy and Molly-Mae / Sitting in a tree

Could these two be the only couple who truly like each other? Either way, they're surely the only one the nation likes. After Lucie breaks down and tells Tommy she regrets not picking him on day one (move along), he fells the need to assure Molly-Mae he has eyes for only her. He does this by going the whole hog: telling her he's falling in love with her and uttering the words "you complete me", which inadvertently revealed him to be a Jerry Maguire fan. ITV2 producers better start carving that trophy.

4. The Anna, Jordan and Ovie love triangle

So, Anna recoupled with Ovie after leaving Casa Amor, which left a loyal Jordan all on his own, and that was that. Well, until now. Tonight saw Jordan plant the seed of doubt in Anna's brain and, instead of biding her time to see how she felt after some advice from her friends or, I don't know, a nice chill cuppa, she immediately went and told Ovie the news. Understandably, he wasn't too happen. "I'm a proud man," he told her, which is a nice way of saying "sling your hook".
