Love Island 2019: Amber Gill chooses Greg O'Shea over Michael Griffiths

Your support helps us to tell the story

My recent work focusing on Latino voters in Arizona has shown me how crucial independent journalism is in giving voice to underrepresented communities.

Your support is what allows us to tell these stories, bringing attention to the issues that are often overlooked. Without your contributions, these voices might not be heard.

Every dollar you give helps us continue to shine a light on these critical issues in the run up to the election and beyond

The end of another series of Love Island is (thankfully) in sight – and tonight saw two contestants thrown out the week before the grand finale.

Considering his antics in recent weeks, it always seemed like Michael's time was nearing an end meaning that whoever ended up with him at the time would go down as collateral damage.

For all the remaining couples, it's becoming increasingly impossible to trust a single word coming out of any of their mouths considering they can practically smell the £50,000 prize fund.

Below are the four biggest talking points from the latest episode.

1. The kiss

Revenge is a dish best served cold – or under the covers of the bed next to the guy who has treated you awfully. Michael discovered this tonight when Greg – fresh from being picked by Amber – finally decided to reward her with a kiss (a "thank you" would have sufficed, Greg). That this came hours after Michael had told Amber he doesn't think they're going to work only added to how ridiculously gratifying it was to see. Well, as much as two people canoodling in darkness could possibly be.

2. The question

Jordan, realising he's in need of some screen time, settled on the perfect tactic to find himself front and centre of tonight's episode – by asking Anna to be his girlfriend. No, no, to be fair to good old Jordan, his feelings for Anna certainly seem genuine – how could they not be after coming up with the most saccharine way of popping the question? He took his girlfriend-to-be on a magical mystery tour of all the places in the villa that they've shared a romantic moment. She said yes, thus saving Jordan from what could have been a lifetime of embarrassment..

3. The date

Clearly we were overdue some Curtis and Maura time. Quite why producers thought we'd want to watch a full 10 minutes of the pair squeezing oranges, though, is another matter entirely. To not be completely cynical, these two also seem like they actually like each other... while the £50,000 is in play, at least.

4. The dumping

Poor Francesca. From the moment she was lumbered with Michael following last week's recoupling, her days were numbered. Sure enough, the moment a couple faced the chopping block, it was Michael – and inadvertently Francesca – who would be sent packing. Not before Michael could offer three sage words of advice to Greg about Amber: "Treat her well." All he has to do is do exactly the opposite of what you did, right Michael?

This could go either way...

Oh phew, she said yes. Well, that was that.

Jacob Stolworthy21 July 2019 21:18

...and now everyone's jumping in the pool because they're the most extra group of people i've ever seen in my life.

Jacob Stolworthy21 July 2019 21:18

To be fair, as my girlfriend has kindly pointed out, they probably have nothing better to do. I'll let them have this one.

Jacob Stolworthy21 July 2019 21:19

Amber and Greg are smooching under the covers in front of MIchael and it's pretty gratifying.

Jacob Stolworthy21 July 2019 21:21

I like Chris but sunglasses indoors, pal...

Iced coffee – the true way to someone's heart.

Jacob Stolworthy21 July 2019 21:29

If Amber thinks walking 50 yards is a lot of effort, Greg has it easy.

Jacob Stolworthy21 July 2019 21:30

Ah, and there was me thinking things were nice and Maura/Curtis free.

Jacob Stolworthy21 July 2019 21:31

It's an okay shirt.
