Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

After weeks of gruelling challenges and nauseating Bushtucker Trials, the 2024 series of I’m a Celebrity is complete.

Oti Mabuse was the last contestant to be eliminated in the public vote on Saturday (7 December), leaving the three finalists, McFly’s Danny Jones, Coleen “Wagatha Christie” Rooney, and the pop-star-turned-priest Reverend Richard Coles to battle it out in the final episode on Sunday.

In early scenes during the finale, Rooney burst into tears in the Bush Telegraph, saying she was “so proud” to get this far in the competition.

After the trio endured the final Trial, “Towers of Terror”, it was announced that Coles had come in third place. As he left, he said the experience had been “flabbergasting”. That meant it was just Rooney and Jones as the final two.

Jones was then revealed as the winner, following in the footsteps of his bandmate Dougie Poynter, who was crowned King of the Jungle in 2011. “Thank you from the bottom of my heart,” Danny told fans. “I gave my all in there, gave myself. And it’s a lovely feeling to be liked!”

‘Oh it’s revooooolting!'

That was Richard’s very appropriate reaction to being showered with fish guts. “We’re just using up everything we have left!” joked Dec... or Ant. Can’t quite remember...

Final feast choices

After that excellent Trial performance, the celebs can have anything they want for dinner... so what are they opting for?

Danny is having a starter of mozzarella sticks with sweet chilli sauce, then a buttermilk chicken burger and chips for his main course, fresh cream profiteroles with warm Nutella sauce for dessert and a cold glass of beer for his drink.

Coleen is going for a starter of bruschetta, then spaghetti bolognese with flaky parmesan cheese and garlic bread for her main course, vodka for pudding (iconic) and a glass of French pale Provence rose for her drink.

And last but not least, Richard is digging into a starter of king prawn cocktail with salad, cottage pie with peas, carrots and gravy for his main course, fruit cake for dessert and Chablis Grand Cru for his drink.

“I’m gonna tuck into that food like a dirty filthy animal,” grinned Danny.

Richard on swapping Ibiza raves for the church

“It was a Tuesday morning and I was on the Circle Line and I saw my face in the reflecton and thought, ‘I’ve got to get a grip,’” he said.

Read about why we reckon he might be the show’s nicest contestant, below...

How Richard Coles became the loveliest I’m a Celebrity contestant ever

The former vicar may have been a late arrival, but he has quickly emerged as a fan (and camp) favourite. Could the ITV show elevate Coles from ‘Bordering National Trinket’ status to fully fledged national treasure? asks Annabel Nugent

In third place is.........

Richard!! What a sweetie.

My favourite Richard moment from the show was...

... when he was chatting about “scissoring” to GK while apparently, allegedly, not knowing what it is.

Here’s a reminder:

I’m a Celebrity fans dumbstruck by GK Barry and Richard Coles’s risqué chat

‘Not what I expected on a Monday evening,’ said one viewer

Who would be Richard’s winner?

“Both would be absolutely fantastic but I have a feeling it might be Coleen’s year,” said the Rev.

Richard, gone but never forgotten...

Some fans think he’s been robbed of the King of the Jungle title

Danny’s reflecting on his time on the show now

During his time in the jungle, Danny’s been praised for his honesty about his mental health struggles, talking about his anxiety and the fact he’s been in therapy since he was 19.

He revealed he is “constantly worrying” and, at one point, described the nausea and increased heart rate he experienced during a panic attack he had while playing live on stage with McFly.

At another point, the singer was applauded by fans for having a candid discussion about postnatal depression with Coleen and Oti. Reflecting on his wife Georgia’s experience of childbirth, he told his fellow campmates: “Looking back now, she had postnatal depression. That is so hard and what made it harder was she didn’t know.”

Now it’s Coleen’s turn for her highlights

During her time Down Under, Rooney has been praised for her calm demeanour. She even kept her cool earlier this week when medics were called after a cockroach became trapped in her ear.

Rooney has also shared some heart to heart moments with her campmates. In one standout moment, Rooney, Jones and Oti opened up for a candid discussion about postnatal depression.

Rooney, who shares four children with her footballer husband Wayne, said that she “just threw [her]self on the bed sobbing” a few days after giving birth to eldest son Kai, now 15.

Elsewhere, the TV personality and wife of the former Manchester United striker openly discussed her private life with her campmates, admitting she rarely sees her husband, due to his new role as the manager of Plymouth Argyle, meaning their time apart in the jungle was not too different to their normal life.
