The trailer for Gracepoint, the US version of Broadchurch, has been released – and fans may be surprised to see how faithful the American equivalent has kept to the ITV original.

David Tennant stars with an American accent as ‘Detective Emmett Carver’ alongside Breaking Bad’s Anna Gunn, who replaces Olivia Colman as Detective Ellie Miller.
The trailer begins in exactly the same way as the original series, with Beth Latimer running in a similar red outfit through a traffic jam to discover her son Danny has been found dead.
The landscape of the fictional Californian seaside town is also strikingly similar to the Dorset coastline, and comes complete with an elderly Jack Marshall-type character and a sinister Susan Wright, played by Pauline Quirke in the original.
The trailer is so similar to Broadchurch, it does make you wonder why FOX felt the need to spend millions of dollars on an American version that is essentially the same as the ITV original.
But there will at least be one difference – other than a ‘pretty blonde’ actress drafted in to play Olivia Colman’s role.
The ending has been re-written by Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall, which could mean there will be a different killer altogether.

Gracepoint airs in the US on FOX later this year, with a UK date to follow.
