WARNING: Spoilers for Game of Thrones season 8

A new theory suggests that Sansa Stark will be the one to kill Cersei, as potentially hinted at during the Battle of Winterfell.

The Hollywood Life pointed to the moment during the battle when Arya gives Sansa her dagger. “I don’t know how to use it,” Sansa says, before her sister replies: “Stick ‘em with the pointy end”.

Although Sansa may not be a warrior, spending the Battle of Winterfell down in the crypts with Tyrion, she has been trained in the arts of manipulation by Cersei and Littlefinger.

Having already had Littlefinger executed at the end of season 7, it’s possible she might also use the skills she’s been taught to eliminate Cersei.

In George RR Martin’s A Song of Ice & Fire, Maggy the Frog delivers the prophecy that Cersei will be killed by the valongar (”And when your tears have drowned you, the valonqar shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat and choke the life from you,” reads the full quote.)

In High Valyrian, “valongar” means “little brother”, which would appear to seal her fate. However, the line was not included in the show, which could suggest the showrunners have someone else in mind for the job.

It’s plausible that Sansa will use her manipulation skills to get close to Cersei, before delivering the final blow with Arya’s dagger.

The next episode appears to move events to King’s Landing, as the survivors of the Night King battle prepare to take on Cersei Lannister, Euron Greyjoy and The Golden Company.

Photos show Jon, Daenerys, Tormund, Grey Worm and Samwell bearing torches in memory of Theon, Beric, Lyanna and Ser Jorah.

Game of Thrones is available on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK, and on HBO in the US.
