From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Game of Thrones showrunners are in high demand as Netflix, Amazon and Disney look to sign an exclusive deal with the writer-directors.

David Benioff and DB Weiss may have faced criticism from fans for the eighth and final season of the HBO show, but this hasn’t stopped three of the world’s biggest streaming services from wanting to secure the pair for what is reported to be a $200m deal.

According to Variety, HBO, NBC and Apple were also interested in having them develop film and television projects, but these are no longer considered contenders.

Disney undoubtedly have a fighting chance considering Benioff and Weiss are currently developing an untitled Star Wars film that’ll follow JJ Abrams’s conclusion to the Skywalker saga in 2022.

It’s no surprise that the pair are wanted by these corporations. Just last week, Game of Thrones scored a record-breaking 32 Emmy nominations, which helped HBO overtake Netflix in the overall tally for this year.

Deadline reports that Amazon are hoping Benioff and Weiss can help its new Lord of the Rings series “off the ground”. It’s currently being developed by Game of Thrones writer and co-executive producer Bryan Cogman.

In July, thanks to a Reddit campaign, Benioff and Weiss came up as the result on Google when you typed in “bad writers”.

The effort has been the handiwork of one user who created a post titled “Bad Writers. Upvote this post so it’s the first result when you google ‘Bad writers’” and, sure enough, their plan worked.
