From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Donald Trump really doesn’t like this season of Saturday Night Live.

Before being anointed President-elect of the United States, he said Alec Baldwin’s impression ‘stinks,’ adding it was “time to retire the boring and unfunny show.”

Once again, the Republican has taken issue with the NBC show, calling it “totally one-sided” and “biased” while saying it offers “nothing funny at all.”

Of course, Trump has hosted the show twice before, once in 2004 and once in 2015, the latter appearance criticised for ‘humanising’ the controversial then-Republican candidate.

During the course of last night’s show, Baldwin returned to impersonate Trump, having been a no-show the week before. In the opening sketch, the actor made fun of Trump’s cabinet appointments, his meeting with Mitt Romney, and Mike Pence being booed at a showing of Hamilton. Watch it here.

Meanwhile, the real Donald Trump recently accused the cast of Hamilton of harassing Pence after they made a diversity plea to the VP-elect. During the following night’s performance, one of the President-elect’s supporters interrupted one song, shouting abuse at the cast.
