From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. UK ctizens hoping to subscribe to Disney+ are furious to discover it will officially come without one huge TV show.

With the streaming service’s arrival in the UK just over a month away, fresh details about packages and deals are slowly being released.

The latest announcement stated: “Disney+ offers fans of all ages a new way to experience the unparallelled content from the company’s iconic entertainment brands, including Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic.”

Due to licensing restrictions with Sky, this means that The Simpsons, which was acquired by Disney following its merger with Fox, won’t be available to stream.

Those who subscribed to Disney+ in the US last year criticised the sitcom’s absence leading to Disney’s decision to offer classic episodes earlier this year.

But there’s currently no word on whether these episodes will also be avaiable to watch in the UK – something that is causing anger on social media.

While The Simpsons wasn’t mentioned in the initial email, some are highlighting that Disney’s tentpole properties were named.

Still, the animated show’s addition is a key reason why many people are planning on subscribing, so it seems like an odd choice to omit it from the announcement.

The service will be available in the UK from 24 March. Find a full list of everything joining Disney+ here.
