Donald Glover scored rave reviews as host of Saturday Night Live where he released a haunting new Childish Gambino song and showcased his character in forthcoming Star Wars prequel Solo.

The Atlanta star unveiled a sketch - in character as young Lando Calrissian - which saw him call out the long-running franchise for its lack of representation of black characters.

Taking place on the planet of Naboo, Glover introduced the first ever “galactic summit for all black humans” in the Star Wars universe.

“It all started with one question: where the hell are all the black people in space?” he asked, citing Mace Windu (Samuel L. Jackson), Finn (John Boyega), Rogue One's Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker) and his Solo co-star Thandie Newton's character Val as the only four in its 40-year history.

“Lots of wizard men wearing vests,” Glover says in character as Lando. “Just four black people, though.”

Glover also stunned audiences with a brand new politically-infused Childish Gambino music video for a track titled “This Is America” which he performed live later on in the episode.

This weekend's edition of SNL was kick-started by a star-studded opening (Scarlett Johansson! Ben Stiller!) which saw Stormy Daniels issue a warning to Donald Trump, played as ever by Alec Baldwin.
