Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Tonight, Celebrity Big Brother returned to watch over us all once more.

Now in its fifth series, the pressure was on to persuade (but do they really need persuading?) 12 not-so-innocent celebrities to enter the house.

This year, the high profile residence has undergone an opulent Renaissance-inspired upgrade, complete with wall paintings, gold-painted chairs, a theatrical model polar bear and chandeliers. Big Brother will not be letting its contestants simply kick back and relax though - that much is in little doubt.

A massive 45 cameras lurk in every nook and cranny of the house, meaning that viewers really won't be missing a thing. This will either be entertaining, disturbing or both - probably the latter in approximately equal measures.

Emma Willis and previous Celebrity Big Brother winner Rylan Clark will be presenting Bit on the Side during the week to fill everybody in on all the (hopefully dramatic) goings-on.

But whose moves will we be helplessly following 24 hours a day?
